Hello,

My father was a platoon Sergeant in Vietnam. He served, years 1970-1971. He operated out of Khe Shan and his unit used Hill 65 / RAW HIDE, LZ/FSB to fly out of. His unit was 196th Infantry Brigade, 23rd Infantry division, 2nd Platoon, 1st Battalion.  I have tried extensive Internet searches but have turned up nothing this specific. I have tried leaving messages on Blogs I can’t even find picture of LZ/FSB Raw hide from that year.

Please help with resources . Please respond if you can’t, just to let me know to move on.

Thank you very much,

E. Michael Keeney, LCSW

Dear Mr. Keeney,

I find it strange that the 196th Light Infantry Brigade would have no website, but for want of that, I’d suggest you look into whether it has a veteran’s organization—it has to, and if not the 23rd “Americal” Division must, even if it is the only division not formed on United States soil. If you can just find one vet’s organization, it could direct you up—or more likely down—the chain of command to the most specific subdivision. If worst comes to worst, find a general Vietnam vets’ organization and ask if it can direct you to the Americal or one of its elements.

Good luck,

Sincerely,
