Herman GISKES: German. GISKES joined the Abwehr in 1939. In 1941 he operated in Holland where he played a leading part in the investigation of suspected British agents, some of whom he turned into double agents in what became known as the ‘Nordpol’ affair. Later in the war he was concerned with establishing ‘stay-behind’ groups for sabotage acts against Allied forces. GISKES was interrogated at Camp 020 in 1945 and returned to Germany the same year
