1975. The prototype, made by Steve Sasson, was 8 lbs and the size of a toaster. It took 23 seconds to photograph a blurry image of a lab assistant, which he was less than pleased with. The first commercially available digital camera—the Dycam Model 1—appeared 15 years later.
