Baseball. Stratton had been a pitcher with the Chicago White Sox when he accidentally shot himself while hunting. With the use of an artificial leg, he pitched in Class C East Texas League winning eighteen games and seven in Class B Big State League in Texas. The movie, “The Stratton Story,” starring Jimmy Stewart and June Allyson won an Academy Award for best original screenplay. Stratton said the movie was extremely true to life.
