The first bride and groom to exchange vows in the White House were Associate Supreme Court Justice Thomas Todd and this first lady’s sister.
Dolley Madison’s widowed sister, Lucy Payne Washington, in 1812. The couple went on to have eight children. Justice Todd was appointed by President Thomas Jefferson. He served from 1807 until his death in 1826.
