William Stone completed a copperplate engraving copy of this historical document in 1823.
Declaration of Independence. Secretary of State John Quincy Adams was concerned because the original Declaration of Independence was fading. He commissioned Stone to reprint it. Stone’s engraving produced 201 copies on parchment which were distributed to each state and territory, various government officials, and colleges and universities.
