1974. Private Teruo Nakamura, a Taiwanese national, enlisted in the Japanese Army in 1943. He held out on Morotai in Indonesia until he was captured in December 1974. Also in 1974, Hiro Onoda, who held out in the Philippines, finally surrendered.
