Frederick Banting and Charles Best worked this long to discover and develop insulin.
Eight months. Banting was a thirty year old physician at the time and Best was a twenty-two year old medical student. They were assisted by James Macleod and James Callip. Banting and Macleod were awarded the 1923 Nobel Prize in medicine for this discovery.
