Gamal Abdel Nasser. Nasser, along with Muhammad Naguib, overthrew the Royal government in 1952. Naguib became President. In 1954, the Moslem Brotherhood tried to kill Nasser. He put Naguib under arrest, cracked down on the Brotherhood and took control of the government.
