M&Ms. Inspired by the British candies he saw soldiers in the Spanish Civil War eating. Mars developed a process of covering chocolate in a hard candy shell to prevent the chocolate from melting. After the US entered the war, M&Ms were sold exclusively to the US government as part of soldiers’ rations.
