Pompey’s Pillar National Monument in Montana was named for the infant son of this 19th century explorer.
Sacajawea. William Clark named the sandstone butte in honor of Jean Baptiste Charbonneau who he had nicknamed Pomp. Clark carved his own name in the butte on July 15, 1806.The carving is still visible.
