The first group of five players were inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in this year.
1936. Babe Ruth, Christy Mathewson, Honus Wagner, Ty Cobb, and Walter Johnson were the first five players inducted. The actual Hall of Fame building didn’t open until 1939. The location of the HoF at Cooperstown, NY is based on the mistaken belief that baseball was invented there.
