Journalist Jane Croly founded this volunteer organization.
General Federation of Women’s Clubs, which is “an international organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service.” Croly, writing under the name of Jennie June, was the first woman journalist whose column was syndicated. The organization she founded in 1868 was named Sororis, but at her recommendation the GFWM formed in 1990 and today has 90,000 members worldwide.
