Founded in 1848, this college was named for the founder of the Lutheran Church in the US.
Muhlenberg College, founded in Allentown, Pa., and named for Henry Melchoir Muhlenberg. His son, John Peter Gabriel Muhlenberg, became a general during the Revolutionary War. Another son, Frederick Augustus Conrad Muhlenberg, became the first Speaker of the US House of Representatives.
