Martin Luther King Jr. Alberta Williams King was shot and mortally wounded by a 23-year-old black man while she was playing the organ during Sunday services on June 30, 1974, at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta where her husband served as minister. Two other people were wounded, one of whom also died. The shooter claimed, “all Christians are my enemies.”
