Kewpie, chubby-faced cupids with tiny wings, that O’Neill used to express her political views. Kewpie debuted in her drawings in 1909. In 1913, she patented the image and oversaw the creation of the Kewpie doll. Worldwide sales of the doll and other Kewpie merchandise made her a millionaire, but she was also the most highly paid female illustrator in America by 1914.
