Flag Day. Cigrand, a teacher, began his crusade in1885. President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation for observing a national Flag Day in 1916; Congress and President Harry S Truman made June 14 an annual National Flag Day in 1949. June 14 signifies the day in 1777 when Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes as the US flag.
