Benedict Arnold. The monument stands on the spot where Arnold was badly wounded in the leg during the battle and bears the dedication "to the most brilliant soldier of the Continental Army." Arnold later turned traitor and offered to surrender strategic West Point to the British in return for money and a command in their army.
