The Gloster Meteor. Developed by Britain’s Gloster Aircraft Company, six of the new fighters were assigned to RAF 616 Squadron on July 12, 1944. At first they were used to counter the V-1 flying bomb threat, "killing" two of the unmanned flying bombs by August 4, 1944.
