On November 11, 1940, the Willys-Overland Motors Company unveiled this vehicle.
CCKW 2 and 1/2 Ton truck
Sherman Tank
Jeep
M2 Half-Track
Jeep. Officially, the Truck, 1/4 ton, 4×4, the name "jeep" – not capitalized during WW2 – is likely derived from two sources: the initials "GP" for general purpose and a cartoon character from the Thimble Theater (Popeye) comic strip. Named "Eugene the Jeep," the strange little cartoon creature could magically go anywhere, a characteristic the tough vehicle seemed to share.
