1916. On December 5, 1916, Ben Kuhl held up a small, horse-drawn mail wagon in Jarbridge Canyon, Nevada. He killed the driver, Fred Searcy and made off with more than $3,000 in gold coins. Subsequent tellings of the story turned the small wagon into a full-sized stagecoach. In his confession Kuhl claimed Searcy was in on the job and was killed when the two men quarreled.
