1992. The USS Missouri and USS Wisconsin shelled land targets in Kuwait during the First Gulf War, but they proved too expensive to operate compared with modern cruisers and destroyers. The Missouri – "Big Mo," on the deck of which Imperial Japan surrendered to the Allies at the end of WWII – was finally decommissioned on Mar. 31, 1992.
