Shortest player. Gaedel who was three feet seven inches was hired by the manager of the St. Louis Browns as a publicity stunt but given a legitimate baseball contract. Gaedel’s career consisted of one time at bat, when Detroit Tigers pitcher Bob Cain walked him. Gaedel died ten years later at age 36. Cain was the only baseball representative to attend his funeral.
