Newspaper writer. Masterson started his writing career in 1883. From 1904 until his death he lived in New York City and wrote almost exclusively for the New York Morning Telegraph. On Oct. 25, 1921, a month shy of his 68th birthday, he died of a heart attack at his desk while scribbling the next day’s sports column.
