Dr. Anna Howard Shaw. She was ordained in 1880, graduated Boston University Medical School in 1886, and was vice-president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association for 12 years before assuming the leadership herself in 1904. She was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal after chairing the Woman’s Committee of the U.S. Council of the National Defense during World War I.
