Leningrad. Founded by Czar Peter the Great, the city was originally called Saint Petersburg. After the Russian Revolution it was renamed Petrograd and then Leningrad in honor of the Bolshevik leader Vladimir Lenin. After the breakup of the Soviet Union, it was officially re-turned to its original name.
