Greeneville, named after Revolutionary War General Nathanael Greene. The town served as the second capital (1785-88) of the short-lived state of Franklin. Greenville was also the home of President Andrew Johnson, who is buried there. Confederate cavalry general John Hunt Morgan was killed in the town during the Civil War. Crockett was born at nearby Limestone.
