Lie detector or polygraph. In 1913, Marston, a Harvard psychologist, invented a system blood pressure test used to determine the truth by measuring the body’s stress reaction. In 1921, Dr. John Larson, forensic scientist and police officer, upgraded the device, which the press then named a lie detector.
