The Ed Sullivan Show. It debuted June 20, 1948 as Toast of the Town, and its June Taylor Dancers were called the Toastettes. The name changed in 1955, and The Ed Sullivan Show ran until 1971. The longest-running variety show in TV history, it featured the first nationwide TV appearances of performers such as Elvis Presley, Barbra Streisand and The Beatles.
