Gave their life jackets away. During World War II, Rev. George Fox, Rabbi Alexander Goode, Rev. John Washington, and Rev. Clark Poling were aboard the US Army Transport ship Dorchester when the ship was hit by a German torpedo. Before it sank, the four chaplains gave their lifejackets away and went down with the ship. They are known as The Immortals.
