McDonalds. Roy Kroc opened his first McDonald’s restaurant on Des Plaines, Illinois, in 1955. He had made a deal with the McDonald Brothers of California to open the restaurant in Des Plaines, based on their limited-menu restaurant in San Bernardino and split the profits with them. In 1960, Kroc bought exclusive rights to the McDonald’s brand name.
