Mary I, also known as Bloody Mary, was the first reigning Queen of England. Oldest daughter of Henry VII, she ruled from July 1553 to November 1558. Her reign was marked by the persecution of leading Protestants. Many fled into exile, and at least 300 were burned at the stake.
