Delaware. Born in Germany, Minuit moved to The Netherlands at an early age. He represented the Dutch West India Company when he purchased Manhattan. Later, after he had been recalled to The Netherlands and relieved of his duties in New York, the Swedish government asked him to settle New Sweden, now known as Delaware. Minuit did that in 1638. Later that year, he was lost at sea.
