This is widely regarded as the largest tank battle in history.
Battle of the Bulge
Battle of Kursk
Battle of Cambrai
Second Battle of El Alamein
Battle of Kursk. The numbers involved are usually given as about 2,700 German tanks and 5,000 Soviet tanks and a great number of aircraft. The Germans launched two simultaneous attacks on July 5, 1943, to pinch off a Soviet salient. The attacks ultimately failed though the Germans inflicted more casualties than they sustained. New information has cast doubt on the numbers involved and make it appear the Soviet report of German strength was greatly exaggerated.
