Carrhae
Philippi
Pharsalus
Cynoscephalae
The Battle of Pharsalus sealed the fate of the Roman Republic, giving Gaius Julius Caesar the edge over his opponent for dictator of Rome, Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus (Pompey the Great). Although outnumbered more than 2 to 1, the discipline and dedication of Caesar’s soldiers to their leader ultimately determined the battle. Crassus, the third member of the First Triumvirate, died fighting against the Parthians at the Battle of Carrhae.
