Pequot War, 1637, resulted after English Puritan settlers began expanding into the Connecticut River Valley, home to the Pequot tribe. The major battle of the war, at Mystic or Missituk, was a victory for the English and their allies; from 400 to 700 Pequot are believed to have been killed, and the tribe was soon virtually eliminated. Though collectively the remaining tribes outnumbered the newcomers, they were unorganized and some allied with the colonists against other tribes.
