The original Pledge of Allegiance. The salute, made by holding the right arm forward in a stiffly upraised position, was used while saying the pledge until 1942 when Congress determined the Bellamy Salute resembled the Nazi salute. Congress established the flag salute with the right hand placed over the heart.
