Frances Folsom Cleveland. Frances was 21 when she married Cleveland, who was 48. Cleveland died in 1908, and in 1913 Frances married Thomas Jex Preston. Preston had retired at 40 to earn a Bachelor degree and PhD from Princeton. By the time he married Frances, he was an archaeology professor at Wells College. Frances used her post-First Lady years in charity work. She also chaired the National Security League’s Speaker’s Bureau during World War I.
