The Duke of Wellington. Born in Dublin in 1769, son of the Earl of Mornington, he had careers in both politics and the military. He was granted the title Duke of Wellington in 1814, following his British army’s success against Napoleon in the Peninsular War, concluding with his victory at the Battle at Toulouse, April 10, 1814 ? unaware that Napoleon had abdicated days earlier.
