Nashville, Tennessee. When Federal troops occupied the city on Feb. 25, 1861, a retired sea captain named William Driver brought out a large flag he had hidden after the state seceded from the Union and presented it to them to fly over the town. He called the flag "Old Glory," and the name stuck.
