David Crockett, who disliked the nickname "Davy." A colonel in the Tennessee militia, he began his political career as a justice of the peace. When his constituents failed to elect him to a fourth Congressional term, he reportedly said, "You can all go to hell, and I am going to Texas." He was killed at the Alamo.
