Longitude. Harrison approached the problem of determining longitude by creating an accurate maritime timepiece. Previous attempts to find longitude at sea were linked to inaccurate astronomical observations. It took Harrison almost 30 years to convince the prize committee his timepiece was an accurate and viable solution to the problem.
