Napoleon III. He had his image taken in May 1859 by Andre Disderi, while on the way to Italy with his army. It cemented the Parisian photographer’s fame and made his fortune. Disderi didn’t invent the cartes-de-viste but discovered a way of reducing production costs. They originated with Dodero, a photographer from Marseilles.
