Panic of 1893. When the US plunged into its worst depression of the 19th century, jobless men formed into groups called armies, the largest of which was led by Jacob S. Coxey. It marched on Washington to demand relief for the unemployed, but broke up when its leaders were arrested for trespassing on the US Capitol grounds.
