Dime. An engraving of the head of recently deceased Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt appeared on new dimes in 1946. The letters JS below the head sparked stories it was a tribute to communist dictator Joseph Stalin. Actually, JS stood for John Sinnock, who designed the coin. He was accused of adapting it from a bas-relief by black sculptor Selma Burke.
