The Queen’s Plate is the oldest continuously run horse race on this continent.

North America. The first Queen’s Plate was held at Toronto’s Carleton Track on June 27, 1860. The previous year, two members of the Toronto Turf Club petitioned Queen Victoria to grant a plate for a race in Ontario. She suggested the plate be valued at 50 guineas. Her daughter, Princess Louise, wife of the Canadian governor-general, attended the first race.
