This animal is cast in bronze on the Irish Brigade monument at Gettysburg.
Irish Elk
Irish Hare
Irish Badger
Irish Wolfhound
Irish Fox
Irish Wolfhound. The bronze dog lies alone atop the monument, a symbol of loyalty shown to the United States by a brigade that, in its first years of existence, was comprised largely of Irish immigrants or their sons. Severely depleted by battles like Antietam, Fredericksburg and Gettysburg, the brigade filled its ranks in the latter part of the war with whomever it could, losing much of its Irish composition though not the name.
