The Somme, August 1918. Robdet Ritter von Greim and his wingman Johan Putz are widely credited with the first successful attack on tanks by aircraft on August 13. Ernst Udet, in his memoir, Mein Fliegerleben, claims to have destroyed a tank on August 9 by causing it to teeter off of a railroad dam it was crossing, shortly before the Somme Offensive began.
