World War I. Canadian troops, with a spearhead of British tanks and flanked by French and Australians, opened the August 8, 1918, attack near Amiens. They advanced 12 miles in three days, remarkable by WWI standards, jolting the German High Command. From that day to war’s end on November 11, the Canadian Corps fought a series of costly but successful battles, including breaching the Hindenburg Line.
