Monopoly. John Waddington, Ltd. had perfected the technology for printing maps on silk that could stand up to harsh elements and facilitate British airmen’s escape. By coincidence, the Waddington firm was also the U.K. licensee of the popular board game Monopoly which the Red Cross could include in CARE packages for POWs. Under tight security, Waddington’s produced the special maps that could be folded so small they could fit into a Monopoly playing piece.
